If you're looking to put the students up for a challenge, try these optical illusions!

MUNCH
I love a good parody! And seeing what the kids come up with will be a pleasant surprise! Have them add some comedic effects to the famous painting, the scream!
1) Create a drawing that is CLEARLY SIMILAR to "The Scream."
2) Be sure to change at least ONE MAJOR PART of "The Scream" for comic effect (humor!).
3) Color the ENTIRE paper and layer color and/or mediums to create a rich, finished look.4) Work carefully and control your materials for expressive, yet neat, results!

DALI
Make these melting clocks inspired by Dali! I really think these would turn out to be so fun! You can either split the time up into two days and have them work with clay one day and come back for a painting session on another day OR you can use the crayola magic modeling clay to speed up this process. I saw that they used objects like cups, balled up tin foil to get the draped effect of the melting look. Medium Prep for these but it's mostly just gathering lots of items.

If clay isn't your thing, try a surrealism lesson and have the students do one of these crazy rooms! Check out the youtube video that goes over drawing the room to get students started, or use the pictured step by step shown here.

Make Fresco like the great masters of art like Michelangelo and Davinci. Follow the link below for instructions. This can be such a fun memorable project to make the plaster and paint it. This is a project that will take more than one visit.

RIVERA
Rivera is known for murals, I think having the class make a collaborative art piece that they can connect together to create a mural esque display would be so neat for 6th graders at the art walk. check out these mural squares

Another colab idea would be to have students add patterns to one big piece, only downside is they wouldn't be able to bring their portion home BUT they could take a picture with them pointing to their part! You can do this with ANYTHING

SIXTH GRADE FLEW RIGHT BY! Having each student create a butterfly and maybe even getting other classrooms to participate would make a significant art display and farewell to 6th graders! I You would have to cut a butterfly or have the students cut a butterfly template out but i'm here for it! Also , check out more fun colab ideas at the button above!

RENOIR
Become one with nature and paint a landscape or something from nature! Paint on canvas or paper but instruct the students to try to take note of Renoir's small strokes to complete a picture!

KAHLO
Kahlo is a great time to do a self portrait. I have seen Frida inspired self portraits where they all give themselves unibrows and I LOVE THAT! But if you're looking for something different you can also be inspired by the sugar skulls ! Show the students or draw with them the directed drawing to help them get the skull on paper.
